  • About

CULTIVATION A hardy herbaceous biennial, smallage has aromatic, bright-green, fan-shaped leaves and greenish-yellow flowers from late summer in its second year of growth. Growing to 30cm-1m (1-3ft), it prefers fertile, well-drained soil and full sun. Propagate it by sowing seeds in late spring, thinning the seedlings to 30cm (1ft) apart. Harvest the leaves from spring to autumn and the flowers as and when they appear. Grow it outdoors only as a garden and border herb.
