CULTIVATION This hardy evergreen perennial has aromatic, narrow, dark-green leaves and blue, pink or white flowers from midsummer. It grows to a height of 30-60cm (1-2ft) and prefers light, well-drained soil and full sun. Propagate it by sowing seeds or dividing the plant into sprigs or taking stem cuttings in spring and autumn. Hyssop planted in a kitchen garden lures cabbage-white butterflies from brassicas and other leaf crops. Harvest the leaves all year round and the flowers during summer and early autumn. Grow this lovely herb in the garden, border or container or as an edging.
