  • About

CULTIVATION A half-hardy evergreen perennial, the myrtle has small, shiny, lance-shaped leaves and creamy-white flowers from midsummer. Reaching 2-3m (6-10ft), it prefers a sheltered site with moderately rich, well-drained soil and full sun. Plant 1m (3ft) apart. Harvest the leaves all year round, the scented flowers when in bloom, the blue-black berries in early autumn and dry the leaves and flowers from midsummer. A handsome garden, hedge, conservatory and container herb.

Recommended variety M.c. tarentina.
