CULTIVATION Marjoram is a hardy herbaceous perennial with aromatic, woolly, small, oval leaves and white or pink flowers from midsummer. Reaching 15-30cm (6-12in), it prefers poor soil and full sun. Propagate marjoram by sowing seeds in spring or by dividing the plant in spring or autumn or by taking stem cuttings during the summer, planting them 30cm (1ft) apart. Harvest the leaves and flowers at any time to use fresh, but dry the leaves in midsummer just as the plant comes into flower. A useful garden, edging, container and conservatory herb.
