  • About

CULTIVATION The rose is a hardy deciduous perennial with oval leaves on prickly stems and fragrant or unscented blooms that produce green, yellow or red hips. Reaching up to 2m (6ft), or taller for climbing species, it prefers well-drained, moderately fertile soil and sun or light shade. Propagate it by taking cuttings in late summer and plant them 1-2m (3-6ft) apart. Harvest the flowers from early summer and the hips from late summer until the first frosts. A beautiful garden, border, hedging, container and conservatory herb. Recommended varieties Pink and red, scented varieties, like ā€˜Madame Isaac Pereire’, ā€˜Guinee’, ā€˜Alec’s Red’, and Damask roses.
