Radicchio

Known for its small head and violet-colored leaves, radicchio is part of the common chicory family. Common chicory is cultivated in two forms-–for its leaves or for its roots. Radicchio belongs to the former category, as does Belgian endive. The roots of common chicory are often dried, roasted, and ground to be used to replace coffee or mixed with coffee.
