Species name: Lactuca sativa var. long ifolia
Romaine lettuce was one of the first varieties to be used in salads during Roman times. The leaves can grow to 9 inches in length. The leaves are medium green and tightly folded, and have a sweeter flavor compared to other lettuce varieties. It is the lettuce used to prepare a traditional Caesar salad.
