Species name: Cantharellus cibarius

The chanterelle mushroom grows wild in thick forests and develops a symbiosis with the pine and deciduous trees in these areas. Chanterelles are not commercially cultivated and can only be found in the wild. When eaten out of hand, chanterelles possess a peppery flavor, but this flavor will dissipate with cooking. A cooked chanterelle has a more delicate taste. Chanterelles that are translucent are poisonous and should not be eaten.
