Lemon

Although the exact origin of the lemon is unknown, it is believed that it was first grown in India, northern Burma, and China. In approximately 700 AD the lemon was introduced to Persia, Iraq, and Egypt, and was first recorded in literature in the 10th century. In the first century AD, the lemon was introduced to Europeans through southern Ilz^l^yr, but was not widely cultivated until the middle of the 15 th century in Genoa. Christopher Columbus brought lemon seeds to the Americas in 1493; however, lemons were only used for ornamental and medicinal purposes until the 1700s. The name lemon comes from the Arabic limun, and the Old Italian and Old French limone.
