Blackberry

The blackberry is native to North and South America, Asia, and Europe. Dark purple in color with sleek, delicate skin, this particular fruit possesses a light green core that extends throughout the berry and remains intact when picked. Blackberries have been used in Europe for more than two thousand years for medicinal purposes and for food. They were also used as prickly hedges to keep out intruders. In the United States, meats are labeled with a harmless purple-hued dye that is made from the juice of North American blackberries.
