Vaccinium section Cyanococcus
The blueberry is indigenous to eastern North America and is of the low-bush type, reaching 12 inches (30.5 cm) in height. The blueberry is small and round with smooth, gray-blue skin. The blueberry is a sweet and juicy fruit that contains many soft, tiny seeds that are virtually unnoticeable.
Blueberries are considered to be rich in antioxidants due to the presence of high levels of anthocyanins and polyphenol antioxidants. This is also true of other berries, such as red grapes, cranberries, and raspberries, which get their color from the presence of anthocyanins.
