Body Shape

The shape of a fish’s body is influenced by its environment, whether the fish lives at the bottom of the ocean, in open water, or in rivers and lakes. Round fish are tubular in shape and the term describes fish that move in open and moving water. Their shape is sometimes further described as torpedo shaped, especially for fish that must be able to move quickly such as tuna. Salmon, trout, whiting, and sardines are other examples of round fish. The body is symmetrical with the eyes located on both sides of the head. Round fish will produce two equal-sized fillets.
