Scientific name: Oncorhynchus tshawytscha
The Chinook salmon is the largest of the Pacific salmon, weighing on average 30 pounds (13.6 kg). They are also called spring salmon because they return to spawn earlier than other species. Due to their size and preference for coastal waters, they are common prey for whales and commercial fishermen.
