Scientific name: Oncorhynchus gorbuscha

The pink salmon is the most abundant species of salmon. They spawn in streams and rivers from Alaska to California. The most significant pink salmon fishery, however, is off the coast of Alaska and Northern British Columbia.
Unlike other salmon species, pinks spawn relatively close to the coast, sometimes even in river estuaries. They are also distinguished by the fact that once they have developed into juvenile fish they swim directly to the ocean from their spawning beds.
