Black Sea Bass

The black sea bass is a type of grouper (Serranidae family) that is found in the Atlantic Ocean, most abundantly off the coast of New York. The black sea bass also inhabits the coasts of Maine to Florida and the eastern Gulf of Mexico. They live in inshore waters such as bays and sounds as well as in offshore waters to a depth of about 430 feet (130 meters). These fish spend most of their time close to the seafloor and congregate close to bottom formations such as rocks, jetties, man-made reefs, piers, and bridge pilings.
