White Weakfish

Scientific name: Atractoscion nobilis

The white weakfish is grouped with a category of fish called croakers, which are named because of the repetitive croaking sounds they make. This fish has a habitat that ranges from the coast of California to the coast of Alaska and has an elongated body with a somewhat pointed head and a lower jaw that projects slightly. This fish is the only member of the croaker clan that exceeds 20 pounds (9 kg). The largest weakfish ever recorded was 5 ft long (1.5 meters) and 93.1 pounds (about 42 kg). The maximum legal harvesting size for this fish is 28 inches (71 cm) and 7.5 pounds (3.4 kg). It must also have reached five years of age and have been sexually mature for at least one spawning season.
