Sea Trout

Although the sea trout is a species that is distinct from the salmon, its migratory patterns are quite similar. Like the salmon, the sea trout starts its life in freshwater, comes to full maturity in the ocean, and returns to its birthplace to spawn, and often to die.

One fascinating aspect about the sea trout is that it is almost identical to the freshwater “brown” trout. The two fish will commingle in the same river until the sea trout starts to feel the pull of the ocean. The biological difference between the sea trout and the brown trout is not well understood by scientists; they do know, however, that slightly more females than males make the trip to the ocean.
