Scientific name: Thunnus alalunga

The albacore tuna is the only tuna species that can be marketed as “white meat tuna” in the United States. It lives in the open waters of all tropical and temperate oceans, as well as the Mediterranean Sea. The pectoral fin of the albacore is very long, consisting of as much as 30 percent of its total length. The albacore tuna can grow as long as 55 inches (1.4 meters) and weigh as much as 132 pounds (60 kg).
