Pacific Bluefin

The Pacific bluefin can be grouped with the other bluefin species. They have the same streamlined bodies and mature slowly, not reaching sexual maturity until the age of five. They can reach up to 10 feet (3 meters) in length and weigh up to 1,200 pounds (544 kg). Like most tuna species, they are overfished.

The Pacific bluefin is native to the waters between Okinawa and the Philippines and the Sea of Japan, but migrates more than 6,000 nautical miles (11,000 km) to the eastern Pacific, eventually returning to their birth waters to spawn.
