Tilapia

Scientific name: Tilapia is the common name for approximately 100 species of cichlid fish from the tilapiine cichlid tribe.

The name tilapia comes from the name of the cichlid genus Tilapia, which is a latinization of thiape, the Tswana word for “fish.” (Tswana is the national language of Botswana, written in the Latin alphabet.) Because tilapia has been introduced all around the world for human consumption, they are often referred to by different names in various languages and dialects. There are also some species of tilapia called St. Peters fish, taken from the passage in the Christian bible about Peter the apostle catching a fish carrying a coin in its mouth. (It is important to mention that, although no species was named in the passage, there is a type of tilapia that can be found in the Sea of Galilee, where the story took place.)
