Squid

The squid is a marine cephalopod in the order Teuthida, comprising around 300 species. Like all other cephalopods, the squid has a distinct head, mantle, and arms. Squid have eight arms and two tentacles arranged in pairs. Squid cannot survive in freshwater, but are found at all depths of the ocean.

The majority of squid are no more than 2 feet (60 cm) long, although the giant squid may reach about 43 feet (13 meters) in length. In 2007, a colossal squid weighing 1,091 pounds (495 kg) and measuring 33 feet (10 meters) in length was caught by a New Zealand fishing vessel off the coast of Antarctica.
