There are moulds available that have been specially designed for making ice bowls, consisting of two plastic bowls that clip together, leaving a gap in which to pour the water and place the flowers. Ordinary freezer-proof bowls work just as well. Try making individual ice bowls with small bowls.

  1. Use two freezer-proof bowls, one slightly smaller than the other. Pour a little water into the larger bowl, add some flowers, ferns or petals, such as pansies and geranium leaves, and freeze until hard.

  2. Stand the smaller bowl on the ice. Weight it to stop it from floating, then pour some water between the bowls and add more flowers. Freeze until hard. Repeat the process until the gap between the bowls is filled with flowers in ice.

  3. If necessary, wipe the inside of the inner bowl with a hot cloth, then wrap the cloth around the outer bowl to release the ice bowl. Store the ice bowl in the freezer until ready for use.
