The smoother the batter the more light and even the end result will be. If lumps occur as you mix the flour and eggs you can save your batter in the following ways.

Electric mixer Pour your batter mixture into an electric blender and blend for 1 minute until the batter is smooth and lump-free.

Sieve Rest a sieve over a bowl and pour the batter mixture into the sieve. Press any lumps in the batter through the sieve with the back of a spoon.
