Substitutes include distilled white vinegar, lemongrass, lemon thyme, and ground sumac, to name a few. Less commonly found substitutes are tamarind, lime leaves, and lemon balm. My favorite citrus substitutes for marinades and drinks are cranberry, pomegranate, and tart cherry juices.
