A great varietal from the Tuscany region in Italy, which produces Chianti, Sangiovese is a world-class grape with a great future in California as well. In Italy, Sangiovese has been blended for many years by law with other red and even white wine grapes. More recently, top producers in both Italy and California are experimenting with nontraditional blends of Sangiovese and Cabernet Sauvignon and with Sangiovese on it’s own, and they are achieving considerable success. Sangiovese complements a wide range of rustic Italian dishes as well as other full-flavored foods.
