For cyclists, bananas are magical things. They contain tryptophan, a protein that the body converts into serotonin, known to relax you, improve your mood and generally make you feel happier. They also contain essential carbs for energy, an amino acid called tyrosine which has been proven to enhance alertness and ability to focus, vitamin B6 which regulates blood glucose levels, potassium (which is depleted when you sweat), protein and lots of fibre. What’s more, they come pre-packed in biodegradable packaging, are easy to peel and really easy to store in a jersey pocket.
