Literally, “(weaver’s) comb”; a utensil resembling a weaver’s comb used for creating ridges in pasta. It consists of a series of parallel wires held firmly by a small frame of reeds. The artisans who made these utensils worked mostly in the lake areas around Ravenna, where reeds grew in abundance.
