Feast Day

Translates the Italian festa or giorno di festa, and today also used simply to mean “Sundays and holidays.” In the traditional rural society that underlies much of this book, the holy days, saints’ feast days, and Sundays were the principal occasions for special meals, village festivals, and other celebrations.
