Preheat the oven and make sure your oven temperature is correct

The oven must always be at the proper temperature before you start baking, so you must heat it for at least 15 minutes before you will need it. (Remember that the time it takes to heat totally depends on your oven—and yours may take longer!) You should also routinely check its accuracy with an oven thermometer to make sure the dial setting actually matches the temperature inside the oven. If your dial setting does not match the oven temperature, adjust the dial accordingly to make sure your oven is at the right temperature.
