  • About
As with most other nonmilitary industries, the breweries fit into the wartime economy. In 1943, all breweries were required to allocate 15 percent of production for military use. After the war, beer was available in three forms: on draft, in bottles, and in cans. (Canned beer had been perfected on a grand scale to provide beer to the armed forces during the war.) News was also available in three forms: newspapers, radio, and television (actually four; there were still barbershops). Both cans and media were to affect the brewing and appreciation of beer in the United States.
