  • About
The production of commercial hot dog buns, long, soft rolls tailored to the size of the popular sausage, began during the early 1870s. The hot dog bun is frequently credited erroneously to Charles Feltman, a baker who opened a restaurant at Coney Island about 1874. Billy Ingram, who started the White Castle hamburger chain in 1921, is usually identified as the inventor of the commercial hamburger bun. He maintained standardization among the different chains by centralizing bun-baking operations.
