  • About

Consumers Union is a U.S.-based nonprofit organization that is involved with efforts to inform and empower consumers around the world. It is best known for publishing Consumer Reports, and it also runs the blog The Consumerist: Shoppers Bite Back and many other sister sites, including Buy Safe, Eat Well, which is focused on food issues. Consumers Union is emphatic in its position as independent, expert, and impartial, and the Union accepts no outside funding at all. In order to empower consumers, Consumers Union requests and receives questionnaires from more than 1 million consumers every year about their experiences with products and advertising, in addition to using mystery shoppers and having experts test the products of their expertise. Consumers Union also forcefully advocates for consumer-friendly policies and laws, with a large web of lobbyists, grassroots coordinators, and more than half a million online advocates involved in petitioning for causes that Consumers Union endorses, testifying before legislative bodies and in courts, and filing lawsuits.
