  • About
Samuel Born, a Russian immigrant, arrived in New York in 1910. He invented a machine that automatically inserted sticks into lollipops, thereby revolutionizing the lollipop industry. In 1917, he opened a retail candy store in Brooklyn. In 1923 Born started his own manufacturing company, along with his brothers‑in‑law, Irv and Jack Shaffer. They named their company Just Born. In 1932, the company relocated to Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, and three years later, it acquired the Maillard Corporation, which made hand‑decorated chocolates, crystallized fruits, Venetian mints, jellies and “the best bridge mix in the country.”
