  • About
The Federal Democratic Republic of Nepal (until December 2008 the Kingdom of Nepal) is bordered to the north by Tibet and on other sides by India. Nepal was virtually isolated from the rest of the world until the 1950s, and emigration was rare until the 1970s and 1980s. Today the United States is home to an estimated 200,000 Nepalis (including perhaps 50,000 Nepali-speaking refugees from Bhutan), with major concentrations in the New York City area, Boston, Washington, D.C., Dallas, Los Angeles, and Chicago. The majority are Hindus or Buddhists. However, vegetarians are relatively rare.
