  • About
In 1919, Peter Paul Halajian and five associates, all Armenian immigrants, founded the Peter Paul Candy Manufacturing Company in New Haven, Connecticut. One of their first products was a chocolate-covered coconut bar called Mounds, which was released in 1920. Each package included two bars. Following up this success was Almond Joy, a similar bar with almonds topping the coconut, which was first manufactured in 1946. The company’s advertising campaign for Mounds and Almond Joy remains a classic. Its jingle, “Sometimes you feel like a nut, sometimes you don’t,” was inducted into the Advertising Slogan Hall of Fame in 2002.
