  • About
Potatoes, particularly fried potatoes, are a snack food that can be eaten apart from the main meal. In this context, potatoes have become a principal menu item for food eaten outside the home. French fries have occupied a class of their own since the 1920s, when demand for fries allegedly soared with soldiers returning from France, where they had developed a taste for them. During World War II, frozen potato foods gained popularity.
