Occupying the middle ground between single-location restaurant operations and large chain operations such as McDonald’s are restaurant groups. Restaurant groups range from very small, two or three operations, to very large, a hundred or more units. Most restaurant groups differ from chains in that restaurant groups tend to own and operate all of their properties, while chain restaurants often depend on franchises to operate under their banner. While some restaurant groups offer a singular dining experience like a chain, in most restaurant groups there is some variety of experience across the group.
