In general, truck stop food falls into one of two categories, consisting either of fast food chains or restaurants that provide home-style cooking in large portions. Located near major interstates, many of these establishments are open twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week. Many serve breakfast any time. The restaurants offer either a buffet or menu dining. More recently, the home-style restaurants are increasingly being bought out by larger corporations and replaced with fast food options, a trend that does not garner appreciation from the trucker crowd, some of whom have even resorted to eating out of coolers. Truck stop food can also be on the expensive side since the restaurants essentially have a captive audience that is left with few alternatives.
