  • About
This spice from the West Indies is also called Jamaica pepper. It is a favourite of the Greek islands, probably a remnant of Venetian occupiers. Allspice berries can be used ground or – as is usually the case in Greece – whole. The flavour and aroma are like a combination of cloves, cinnamon, cardamom and nutmeg – hence the name.

Allspice, though not native to Greece, has become a favourite of Greek cooks, and is essential in marinades for many meat dishes.
