Ouzo, the strong alcoholic anise-flavored Greek drink, is usually diluted with two parts water for each part ouzo. Slightly sweet and fragrant, ouzo is the perfect accompaniment to the often strongly flavored cured fish, cheese and other meze of the islands. Lesbos and Chios are the islands mostly associated with the ouzo culture, while on Crete, RAKI, a similarly strong drink that is unflavored, is usually consumed undiluted, in tiny glass tumblers.
