Flatfish (pesce piatto) largely live at the bottom of the ocean. This category includes flounder, sole (e.g., English, Petrale, Dover, lemon), halibut, fluke, and turbot. Flatfish bodies are narrower than roundfish; they are compressed from the sides into a bottom-hugging shape. The skin on the top of a flatfish is dark, to act as camouflage from predators, and many have camouflaging abilities. Their dorsal and anal fins run the full length of their bodies.
