Simple syrup is the most neutral way to add a bit of sweetness to a cocktail. To make it, use 1 cup (200 g) granulated sugar to 1 cup (240 ml) water. Heat them together in a small saucepan and stir until dissolved. Cool and keep in an airtight jar in the refrigerator for up to a week.
