A Royal Pie

In 1813, Lord Talbot, then Viceroy of Ireland presented King George III with 24 woodcock baked in a pie. Since then the custom has been followed of sending one to the reigning sovereign in England every Christmas. In 1929 such a pie was sent by Mr. James McNeill, Governor-General of the Irish Free State, to H.M. King George V, at Sandringham.
