  • About

Mrs. Osmonde, Ealing, says: ‘I am sure flummery and fromity were quite distinct in Suffolk. Furmenty was made from new wheat, crushed and sodden all night in milk and water, baked or boiled with honey and cinnamon. It was eaten during the twelve days at Christmas, December 25th to January 6th. Some was placed in a plate outside the door at night for the “Pharisees ” (fairies). This custom seems to show that frumenty was eaten before Christianity came.’
