  • About

Artocarpus Integra, nangka. Jackfruit can sometimes be bought fresh in London from Indian shops. They are very large, shapeless fruit, covered in rough green skin. Ripe jackfruit are eaten as fruit, not cooked. If you have to cut up a fresh jackfruit, beware the sticky juice (getah), which is difficult to remove from hands and almost impossible to get off clothing. Green unripe jackfruit, weighing about 1 kg/2 lb, are best for cooking, and are an essential ingredient of gudeg . However, canned green jackfruit can be easily bought from most Oriental shops and is much easier to handle.
