Anacardium occidentale (many regional and dialect names). This is the fruit of a Central American tree whose English name, cashew, comes from the original Tupi Indian word. The cashew nut (kacang meté) grows at the end of, or underneath, the jambu, which is a rather bloated pearlike object. It tastes bitter but is good to eat raw, e.g. in Rujak.
