Artocarpus integra, A. champeden (Sumatra, cem-pedak). From what Burkill says, the difference between the two species is not reflected in the local names that we give to the fruit. Botanically and linguistically, I am sure he is sound, although I cannot agree with him that the flavour of the jack-fruit is ‘mawkishly sweet and mousy’. Jackfruit not only smell and taste good, but they look imposing as well: up to 50 kg in weight, irregular in shape, and covered with blunt, flat spines like little pyramids. See the drawing.
