Solanum melongena, S. torvum (West Java, takokak). This is a kind, or several kinds, of small aubergine, egg-plant or brinjal. It is about as big as a small plum and comes in a variety of colours—white, purple, green, yellow. The taste is pleasantly bitter; we usually eat it raw.
