Ras al hanout

A Moroccan spice mixture that literally means head of the shop. Ras al hanout can contain myriad ingredients, and each spice shop guards its own secret recipe. For this reason, Kashrut is a consideration; many ras al hanout mixtures contain spices derived from insects or other ingredients that are not kosher. Check for a Kashrut certification insignia.
