This is very similar to the yellow split peas that are sold in supermarkets, only the grains are smaller and the flavour ‘meatier’ and sweeter. Chana dal is sold mainly by Indian and Pakistani grocers. Yellow split peas may be substituted for chana dal in my recipes.
